In a harmonious fusion of creativity and craftsmanship, Audio-Technica and Mecca Coffee have developed a delightful elixir for the senses; Sonic Brew. This nitrogen-infused cold brew, born from their collaboration, is ready to captivate the taste buds of coffee enthusiasts seeking a tasty pick-me-up. This two years in the making project, it has finally landed and marks our first product development in the ready-to-drink category.
Specialty Coffee meets sound excellence
Audio-Technica and Mecca Coffee have joined forces to create Sonic Brew, a beverage that embodies the essence of both brands. "Sonic" resonates with Audio-Technica's unwavering passion for sound, while "Brew" pays homage to Mecca's mastery of coffee roasting and barista expertise. The result? A refreshing, nitro-infused cold brew coffee that couldn't have arrived at a better time than the approaching spring and summer seasons.
A taste of Japan in every sip
Wesley Von Grabill, Brand Manager at Audio-Technica Australia, reveals their motivation: "We wanted to make a sugar and dairy-free, energy drink alternative for our creative community of streamers, podcasters, and musicians with a Japanese twist." Indeed, Japan's iconic vending machines brimming with delectable canned coffee and milk teas served as the muse for this innovative brew.
Paul Geshos, Director and Owner of Mecca Coffee, adds, "Canned cold coffee has been ubiquitous in Japan for decades, and rightly so. It is utterly delicious." Sonic Brew, inspired by Japan's flash brew coffee culture, undergoes a meticulous process. It's brewed hot to extract flavour, chilled to preserve quality, and then infused with nitrogen for a silky texture that tantalises the palate.
Coffee Producer Spotlight - Luciano Vicente
When selecting the coffee to use for this collaboration, Head Roaster Dan May, had no hesitation in selecting one of our favourite producers from our Producers Series, Luciano Vicente. Hailing from Brazil, Luciano inherited 3 hectares from his father and started building his father’s legacy with all the knowledge that was passed on to him. With dedication and enthusiasm (and with help from his neighbour João Hamilton, another Mecca Coffee favourite), Luciano slowly started developing a strong connection with his coffee fields. He takes pride in saying to visitors that he personally planted, picked, roasted and brewed the coffee he serves at his farm.
His love for the land and his surroundings translates into the cup; bringing a smooth, buttery mouthfeel & lingering sweetness. In this nitro brew you can find apricot, vanilla and milk chocolate notes. Paul and Dan recently visited Luciano Vicente in July, marking the first visit back to Brazil after Covid-19 and to catch up with Luciano and neighbouring farmers, was an educational experience in itself. Artistry in a can
Sonic Brew's allure extends to its visually striking can design. Australian artist Jeremy Lord, known for his contemporary manga-inspired artwork, was entrusted with creating a captivating character for the can. In a nod to content creators, this character is depicted carrying a guitar, exuding a superhero-like aura. The vertical dots running down the can symbolise sonic waves, echoing Audio-Technica's Japanese heritage.
Jeremy Lord's artistic journey with Audio-Technica isn't new; he previously designed the artwork for their collaboration with Yulli's Brews for the Karaoke Kingu Rice Lager. With Sonic Brew, his artwork adds an extra layer of depth to the coffee's story, celebrating the blend of Australian and Japanese creativity.
