Single-producer micro-lots like this one are difficult to find in Rwanda, ones produced exclusively by women are close to non-existent. Losing her husband in the Rwandan genocide in 1994, Marie Bedabasingwa has tended the soils of her farm in the northern province of Rwanda by herself.

Marie is a member of Dukunde Kawa Cooperative. Inside this local cooperative, a small group of women producers began to form. They named themselves ‘Rambagirakawa Womens Group’, offering social support, and shared profits to name a few. Marie, at the forefront of the group, is a central force in growing RWG in both numbers and influence in the community.

When asked what the group means to her, she proudly exclaimed, “It has shown me that even the impossible can become possible!”.

This month, we will be donating $1 for every 250g sold from our Rwanda Producers Series as part of a campaign Supporting Strong Women; an initiative that is raising funds for the Rambagirakawa Womens Group. As a collective we hope to raise $15000 by June.
