What is Single Origin Coffee?

Single origin coffee is exactly what it sounds like—coffee that originates from one specific region, farm, or even a particular lot within a farm. Another term we like to use is Producer Lots.

This focus on a single source allows you to taste the distinct flavours and aromas that reflect the unique climate, soil, and growing practices of each location. Our Producers Series celebrates this individuality, providing coffee beans with profiles as diverse as the regions they come from.

By offering producer lot coffee, we’re not just delivering a product—we’re bringing you closer to the farmers and the land, from the rich, chocolatey beans of Colombia to the fruity, floral brews of Ethiopia.

Coffee is happiest grown at altitude. The conditions that appeal to the coffee plant are not always the easiest for humans – remote regions, steep, rugged paths and communities that often struggle to make ends meet.

The producers and exporters we work with dig deeper into understanding the land’s biodiversity and environmental harmony. It is is a crucial element in producing these coffees we seek out. We are not interested monoculture farming where quantity overrides quality in order to keep up with demand. Preserving natural habitats and allowing nature to take its course are all part of revealing the varietals’ true nuances.

We act as the conduit between producer and consumer and honour the work that has been done at the farm level. We travel every year to visit our producer partners and seek out new relationships to build upon our expanding network.

While sourcing coffee we aim to identify opportunities to procure not only incredible coffee but also to work with producers who are conscientious about the longevity of the industry as a whole. From maintaining healthy soil and wildlife to ensuring the ecosystem where coffee is grown maintains sustainable farming practices that will last generations.

We currently work with producers in Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Honduras, Mexico, Guatemala, Rwanda, Kenya and Papua New Guinea. A few of our favourite varietals to work with are Typica, Caturra and Bourbon. We want to buy coffee that puts a spotlight on each region and varietal, while recognising the importance of personality in the terroir.

Our single origin coffee Producers Series collection includes various types of coffee suited to different brewing styles and preferences. Each month a showcase of up to 4-6 producer lots will be on offer. Our ideal brewing methods to enjoy our Producers Series:

In our opinion, the highest priority is to get the sourcing right, from there the roasting and brewing is relatively straightforward. We credit the husbandry of growing, sorting and processing at origin by our producers with the majority of the success of our finished product.

But most importantly it is our job to ensure the farmers, pickers and overall community are paid properly for their hard work. It is our job to be prepared to help through the vagaries of climate change and seasonal variations. We are firm believers in looking well beyond “Fair Trade” (which guarantees a minimum wage) to find a price that ensures a happy life.

We get it, sometimes you just need a quick fix. That’s why we offer our single origin beans as both whole beans and ground coffee for those who are yet to make the investment of a grinder.

Whole Beans: If you like customising your grind size for different brewing methods—espresso, French press, pour-over—whole beans are the way to go. Grinding fresh beans just before brewing ensures you get the fullest, freshest flavour possible.

Decaf Rainbow from Caldas in Colombia, is indeed the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, This is a beautiful showcase of many producers from this region comprising of varietals of Castillo & Caturra. Using the ethyl acetate decaffeination method, Decaf Rainbow is our decaffeinated coffee option. This natural decaffeination process maintains the flavour profile of the beans while gently removing caffeine. It’s a perfect option for those who want a high-quality, specialty experience without the buzz.
