Coffee has been grown in Peru since the 1700s, but the country really started to scale its coffee production at the start of the 20th century. In the years since, this growth has continued at a remarkable pace. By 2014, Peru was one of the top 20 producers in the world. By 2019, it was 11th. It is safe to say that they are pretty much experts by now.

On a recent trip over the Andes, Paul and Dan were amazed again by the dedication and commitment shown from the farmers to their crop, and were shocked at how underrepresented Peruvian coffee is in the Australian market. This growth has only been made possible by the hard work of producers, traders, and other coffee businesses based in the country. One such example is Origin Coffee Lab (OCL), our export partner who is based in the city of Jaén, Cajamarca. OCL has a strong belief in supporting farmers and paying them a living wage, as they believe that farmers are the heart of the coffee industry.

We are lucky enough to be able to showcase this beautiful lot from Melaño Perez. His farm on the outskirts of Jaén produces both the Caturra and Catuai varietals, some of our favourites. Expect to find stewed pear and warm spice in the cup. Something to keep you comforted as the warmer weather takes over.
