PRICE INCREASES EXPLAINED
"This price increase isn’t about chasing higher profits. It’s about survival. It’s about staying true to our values."
The Truth Behind the Price of a Cup
It’s no secret: the call to raise coffee prices has been inevitable. Over the past 20 years, we’ve witnessed the incredible rise in the popularity of specialty coffee. What began as a niche movement has evolved into a celebrated global culture. But here’s the plain truth: crafting and sourcing exceptional coffee comes at a cost.
The coffee we purchase is priced at a premium—not just for its exceptional flavours, but because it is farmed and processed with sustainable and often organic practices. Every step, from cultivation to processing, shipping, roasting, and finally brewing, represents an extraordinary amount of effort and skill. For those of us who have seen this journey firsthand, the contentious nature of coffee pricing has always been frustrating, especially given the dedication behind every single bean.
For years, coffee roasters like us have shouldered the responsibility of keeping prices stable in a fiercely competitive market. We (all specialty coffee roasters) have absorbed the rising costs of sourcing premium coffee—coffee that customers now expect—while many have hesitated to pay more for a cup. However, we’ve now reached a tipping point. Environmental factors, like climate change and extreme weather, have disrupted prominent coffee-producing nations like Brazil and Vietnam, leading to lower yields and rising market prices. Economic pressures, including inflation and the increased cost of living, have also hit us hard. Just like any other business, we face rising expenses—rent, electricity, gas, and staff wages—all of which have steadily climbed.
This price increase isn’t about chasing higher profits. It’s about survival. It’s about staying true to our values: sourcing coffee that is both high-quality and responsibly produced, supporting an industry that has long operated in the shadows of commodity coffee.
We understand that raising prices is never easy news to share, but it’s a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering the coffee you love while upholding our commitment to sustainability and quality.
This means continuing our sourcing of the highest calibre coffees with our export partners and growers that we have worked with over the past two decades. By investing in a cup of specialty coffee, you’re not just buying a beverage— you’re supporting farmers, communities, and a future where coffee is grown with care and respect for the land.
But let’s not approach this with doom and gloom, the good news is that you can still have your coffee and drink it too.. At HOME. The luxury of having two or more coffees a day at your favourite cafe may be a stretch but making your coffee at home is more economical than ever.
For example - your bag of 250g of coffee (per dose between 21-23 grams) will give you at least 10 cups of coffee. Purchase our House Blend at $20 + Milk + Sugar.
Being a home barista is much easier these days whether espresso, filter, batch, stovetop, french press, Aeropress - coffee at your fingertips now you can brew it your way. Discover how we get excited about coffee making and how you have the ability play with flavours.
Yes, we acknowledge that it’s tough. We’re all going through it together and it’s just a matter of looking at this from a different perspective, which at first is going to be challenging. Create a new ritual to enjoy coffee in the comfort of your home and discover your inner barista and brew it your way. Make the most of the visit to your local cafe - enjoy your favourite brew from the team as well as purchasing coffee for home. Don’t be shy to ask for tips, get to know the crew, we are all in the same boat and happy to extend our knowledge so you can brew the best at home.
Thank you for continuing this journey with us.
