Coffee Varietal: Red Bourbon
Harvest Year: July 2023
Coffee Process: Washed
An all-time favourite. The coffee coming from the Yandaro washing station does not only show a consistently clean finish but it’s also full of sweetness and citrusy notes. The epitome of delicacy!
This washing station sits in the Kayanza province, very close to the Rwandan border. The region is synonymous with exceptional quality coffee. It benefits from being located in the valley where the mighty Yandaro River runs through and also very close to the Kibira Rainforest; this strategic positioning helps maintain groundwater reserves and adequate nutrition levels in the soil, producing exceptional results.
Many trees in Burundi are Red Bourbon and the average smallholder has approximately 250 trees planted in their backyard. Since the production is relatively small, during harvest season, all the fruit is hand-picked and only the ripest cherries are selected. This thorough process of selection translates into a particularly aromatic coffee where you’ll find red apple and bergamot in the cup.
Syrupy sweetness yet delicate, Yandaro sings with citrus, and floral notes.
